One of the top rock groups of all time, featuring my favorite lead rock singer/guitarist, Mark Knopfler!

Many believe that Hendrix, Clapton , Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and the recently deceased Eddie Van Halen are among the greatest rock guitarists of all time. Can’t disagree with any of those, but my personal favorite happens to be Mark Knopfler from the band Dire Straits.
Probably their best live video , the Alchemy Live concert was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon London on the 22 & 23 July 1983 , and features songs from their first four albums.
The musicians on this live concert are Mark Knopfler – Guitar and Vocals , John Illsley – Bass , Alan Clarke – Keyboards, Hal Lindes – Guitar , Terry Williams – Drums ,Tony Mandel -additional Keyboards , Mel Collins – Saxophone , Joop De Korte – Percussion .
Here are excerpts from a fine concert from an outstanding rock band.
Another fine performance that night was thr beautiful “Roomeo and Juliet”
Apart from being a world class guitarist, Mark Knopfler is also a great storyteller. Here’s the live performance of “Telegraph Road”. a story of advancing civilization, and its effect on our environment
Dire Straits happens to also be one of my all time favorite rock bands, and I became a fan from their very first hit, “Sultans of Swing “ from their 1978 debut album “Dire Straits “.
This live performance of their hit is one of the best live rock performances I’ve ever seen, and demonstrates why I came to love this band and their vocalist/ lead guitarist.
From the “Alchemy Live” concert (I still have the dvd), here’s Dire Straits and their fantastic performance of “Sultans of Swing”.
Guitarist and composer Mark Knopfler remains one of my favorite musicians of the rock era .
One of the things I like about him is the fact that he is ageing gracefully as an entertainer , and seems to have settled on playing more “age appropriate” music.
Indeed , I think this is one of the things I loved about Dire Straits was the fact that they came on the scene as a mature band , not as teens , and their music reflected it.
Here is Mark Knopfler in Germany in 2007 , performing his anti-war hit “Brothers in Arms” before an appreciative audience.
This was A live performance from the Meistersaal, Berlin on the 10th September 2007 filmed and broadcast by German TV station, RBB.
