About Music…and Memories !

Theme from “The Third Man” by Anton Karas

The other day I was watching one of my all time favorite movies, the film noir classic “The Third Man”, a movie that featured the legendary Orsen Welles and which brought out the best of movie making from the era when classic movies were in black and white, were unique works of art , and “film noir” was a thing.

One of the most striking features of the movie was the music, a unique composition played on the zither by Anton Karas.
This evocative piece of music has been stuck in my head for most of my life!

It seems that the music touches me in a way that stirs emotions and brings back memories of a past that I never even experienced!
From its first few bars there’s a sense of anticipation, of a story being told and you are almost impatient to follow the flow of the music and its story to its end .
It’s difficult to find that layered sense of mystery , of direction of anticipation in most modern music, and that’s very unfortunate!
