God, Science and the Supernatural

Many of us believe in a Creator of all things, including the universe as we know it.

I’m also a believer but I happen to support the scientific theory of the Big Bang, and the expanding universe .

Recent scientific discoveries however, have demonstrated our limited understanding of what happened before the Big Bang, and what caused it.

As far as I’m concerned, the scientific evidence doesn’t provide any more of an explanation for Creation prior to the Big Bang than the alternative which is the supernatural , i.e. a belief in creation by a Godlike force , a Creator of unlimited power.

The Creator, God!

To some, atheists included, this is a belief in the supernatural and contradicts scientific theories , but at this point I think that the belief in a Creator is as valid an option as a belief in the alternative, which is that the universe created itself!

However many of us have our own beliefs, ideas and opinions about that Creator, who we refer to as God, or sometimes by different names in our religious practices.

The problem comes when we think our religious ideas and beliefs are the only valid ones, and we try to impose them on others, by law or sometimes even by force.

As a matter of fact, though I do believe that a sentient being was behind the catalyst for the creation of the universe i.e the Big Bang, I think that most religions are a combination of myths, legends and superstitions , mixed with a little ancient history and politics from an Israelite perspective, passed down through generations.

Incidentally, I should mention that having been raised in a Christian tradition, I do endeavor to follow the teachings of the Christ, who I do believe was a Messenger of the Creator; but that’s personal and the extent of my religiosity!

After all, one has a right to be skeptical about any religion based on the beliefs of a people who managed to convince themselves and others that, among all the peoples on earth, they were the Chosen ones of the Creator!
